Breadline Bluff Trail

Saturday turned out to be a gorgeous day so we headed out for a hike. We hiked the Breadline Bluff Trail. A 3 mile trail that "follows part of a route once used by Tee Harbor cannery workers to get to Amalga Harbor for Saturday Night Entertainment." It follows "the water in "Favorite Channel" near the shores of North and South Tea Harbor which is called the "Breadline" for the plentiful supply of fish close to shore." (90 Short Walks Around Juneau) We didn't see any fish we were high above the water. But it was a pretty trail and it was nice to be out on a sunny day.

Just a little side note: When you're walking along a trail and a black thing is running towards you, your heart stops, your step hangs in mid-stride, and you hold your breathe for a split second (which seems much longer when it happens), then you realize it's just a dog and you are not going to get eaten by a bear. Ask Bob, he was leading this time. Of course when the lead stops short and you can't see around them you go into a momentary panic. It makes hiking exciting. MJ

Look at the bright side - if Bob was leading - he'll be eaten by the bear first. However, I'm seen you run.....maybe this wasn't a bright side. Nevermind..... :)
